The Scottish Laity Network has organized a programme ‘Towards Pentecost 2022’, focusing on listening and responding to the cry of the poor and the cry of the Earth. From 28 April to 2 June there will be six sessions with different speakers. In a world brutally divided between rich and poor, suffering wars and violence, and failing to take radical action to prevent climate devastation, they seek to discern how the Spirit is calling for a response.

In the opening session on Thursday 28 April, John Dear clearly connected with Pope Francis’ powerful Easter message when he recalled that ‘peace is the first responsibility of all. Subsequent sessions sought to reflect on the reality of our world from the perspective of the poor and to explore new ways of responding to their needs. During Laudato Si’ Week, Sarah Augustine will address the impact of the “Doctrine of Discovery” and share some wisdom and insights from indigenous peoples to understand the gift of Creation. Finally, they will reflect on what it means to be a Eucharistic community that comes together to be infused with the risen Lord and go out to live with Gospel authenticity.
