PROPOSITION N. 3: TOWARDS A RENEWED AWARENESS THAT OUR IDENTITY AND VOCATION IS TO BECOME AN INCREASINGLY SYNODAL CHURCH

SPIRITUAL CONVERSATIONS ON PART A OF THE IL

We invite you to have one or more spiritual conversations based on the following questions related to some parts of the IL (cf methodology described on the figure at the end of Part A of the IL)

Towards a renewed awareness that our identity and vocation is to become an increasingly synodal Church:

IL 7. The first phase renewed our awareness that our identity and vocation is to become an increasingly synodal Church: walking together, that is, becoming synodal, is the way to truly become disciples and friends of that Master and Lord who said of himself “I am the way” (Jn 14:6). Today it is also a deep desire: having experienced it as a gift, we want to continue to do so, aware that this journey will be fulfilled on the last day, when, by the grace of God we will become part of that throng described in Revelation thus: “there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying ‘Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!’” (Rev 7:9f.). This text gives us the image of a definitively accomplished synodality, in which perfect communion reigns across all the differences that compose it, differences which are maintained and united in the one mission that remains to be completed: to participate in the liturgy of praise that from all creatures, through Christ rises to the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit.

  • How this observation resonates or not with our experience at the local level?
  • Do you feel that in our community, parish, diocese, BC… there is an increasing awareness that “our identity and vocation is to become an increasingly synodal Church: walking together, that is, becoming synodal, is the way to truly become disciples and friends of that Master and Lord who said of himself “I am the way” (Jn 14:6).”
  • If not, what could be done to provoke this awareness?
