International

Format: Texts & Image

Type: Synod Events

Organisation: Holy See

The Pontifical Higher Institute of Moral Theology – Alphonsian Academy, under the patronage of the General Secretariat of the Synod, is organising an introductory course as part of its multi-year research and training programme entitled “For a synodal and entrepreneurial moral awarness”, entitled “Systemic vision and enterprising awarness for integral human development”.

The training programme in the economic field is inspired by the Social Doctrine of the Church and the best practices of Civil Economy, for the quality of life in communities and territories. It includes opportunities for dialogue, and enterprising and entrepreneurial testimonials.

Among its objectives, the course:

  • Aims to develop an anthropologically and scientifically based economic vision.
  • Promotes, starting with families, communities and businesses, the spread of lifestyles, decision-making criteria and development models.
  • Highlights some important aspects in terms of economic vision and action, which have matured throughout history as a consequence of the Christian message.
  • To explore the contexts and best practices of the civil and circular economy, and the main criteria of sustainability in natural and social systems

Speaking at the presentation of the course on 6 June 2025, Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the Synod, said:

‘The synodal style does not concern only the internal dimension, as if it were useful only for the internal life of the faithful; rather, it takes the form of a modus vivendi et operandi that also involves the external dimension, that is, the relationship with the world. […] The acceptance of the synodal modus vivendi et operandi in society is a prophecy capable of illuminating the path of economic and social development, bringing with it the promise of promoting an integral and solidarity-based humanism. […] The aim of the research and training project presented today is precisely to recover the Christian and moral meaning of the economy and work in the formation of personal and collective consciences […] the synodal path is a call to the co-responsibility of all, calling each person to form their own conscience in order to seek and do good.

The introductory course lasts a total of 16 hours, divided into three teaching modules of 4 hours each. Lessons will be held on Saturdays (one per month) between March and June 2026.
