#SynodGoodPractice Jesuits (International): ‘Ignite the Way’ project to accompany discernment processes

International
Format: Website
Type: Consultation Method, Formation material, Handbook & Toolkits, Synod Events
Organisation: Religious Congregation

From 23 November to 3 December 2025 in Salamanca (Spain), nearly 100 facilitators of discernment processes – Jesuits, diocesan priests, religious women, and lay people from across the globe –  met to share their expertise and ways of proceeding, considering successes as well as difficulties in discernment processes and learning how to go forward. They gather to identify key elements of a core curriculum for the future training of facilitators of discernment.

Sr. Nathalie Becquart XMCJ, Undersecretary, and Fr. Giacomo Costa SJ, advisor to the General Secretariat of the Synod, participated by presenting a joint communication on the theme ‘Why is synodality important for the Church?’ They then led two different workshops: ‘How to build consensus in a large assembly?’ for Fr. Costa and ‘How to accompany a diocese in synodal processes?’ for Sr. Becquart.

The joint presentation by Sr. Becquart and Fr. Costa S.J. is available here.

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants are now preparing to bring their experience home, ready to organize formation programs in their own regions.
