The Roman Catholic Mission of Bangkok (@LiCAS News) with the support of the Archbishop of Bangkok, Msgr. Francis Xavier Vira Arpondratana, and the Catholic Education Council of Thailand, is providing a platform for youths from all over Thailand to not only engage with the issues highlighted by the Synod on Synodality, but also to empower them to make a real difference in their local community by “hacking” an issue raised by the Synod and “pitching” for funding to make their solution a reality.
The Youth Social Hackathon, at its Second Edition, will take place this year in Bangkok from from 10th to 13th July 2025. Six top-level pitching coaches will help participants hone one of the most crucial skills in the social innovation journey: how to present their project with clarity, confidence and impact.

The Youth Social Hackathon is a good example of collaboration among Church’s agencies, as it is organized by the Catholic Education Council of Thailand aims. The event is aimed to provide opportunities and support for children and youth in Catholic schools in creating a better world by selecting chronic issues that overlap and cause crises in the world and society, to study them deeply and with full attention, and being ready to create ways to solve these problems.
Each participating school team with students aged 13-19 consists of between 4 and 6 students and one teacher as a Team Coach.
Among the rules, students are requested to be respectful and inclusive : Treat co-workers, facilitators, staff, and volunteers with respect and kindness. “Being open-minded and accepting of one another helps create a positive learning atmosphere for everyone” the organisers stated. Use of AI is not allowed to be used for presentation purposes, but it can be used for information search.The Social Hackathon is all about learning, networking and breaking down barriers. The winning teams will be the ones who demonstrate empathy, effective communication and problem-solving skills that can really help people in need. Among the criteria in selecting the winner team: Creativity, Practicality, Understanding and Empathy, Presentation of the project, Flexibility and adaptability in their ideas to meet the demands of the final day; Creative Transformation.
